Exhibitions

On February 17 2007 the Arvest Art Gallery opened its doors to the public in Almaty, the city which is considered to be the real cradle of gallery movement in Kazakhstan. For any gallery it is important to create its own image, work out its strategy and build the unique concept through finding those distinguishing features to identify its individuality in the vast variety of art institutions in Almaty. And that is the task which the Arvest Art Gallery has successfully coped with for the last decade.

Years of hard work and total commitment of the founder of the Gallery Rimma Tsakanyan have created a stable platform for the Arvest Art Gallery to become the fairy island of coziness, harmony and style. Due to the well- built strategy, authentic circle of painters and various directions of activity the Gallery has created favourable conditions to integrate into the artistic life of the city.

The name of the Gallery “Arvest”, which means “art” in Armenian, comprises the positive energy of creation. Art is the universal language of communication which does not need translation and is clear without any words. The Gallery supports art directed towards the search for beauty and spirituality outlining it as the main mission of the Gallery. The latter has been constructively practised for the last 10 years. During this quite extensive period of time there have been more than 50 exhibitions, a large group of talented painters has been discovered and presented to the public, a lot of master classes and educational programs have been performed, alongside the formation of its own outstanding collection of pieces of art.

Bright emotions stand behind the dry figures, as far as each of the exhibitions has been a memorable event, joy of communication, atmosphere of cordiality, friendship and creation. Among the projects held by the Gallery there has been a wide range of personal, group, thematic and international exhibitions. Personal exhibitions have unveiled the creative originality of the individuality of the painter. In thematic exhibitions the painters have been offered to concentrate on a specific topic. As for the international exhibitions they have opened new names from the world of art to the people of Kazakhstan and that has become a symbolic bridge to strengthen the art relationship among different countries. For the past years there have been exhibitions representing painters from Armenia, Georgia, Italy, Israel and other countries.

The essential direction of the activities of the Gallery has been the establishment of its own educational area which constitutes leading lectures on the world art, teaching art to people of different age groups, organizing master classes and meetings with famous painters. As a result, many of the students of the Gallery have gained such a strong power of inspiration that they have been involved in painting to a really serious level. Consequently, they have started to exhibit their pieces of art together with their teachers and mentors.

The other outstanding achievement of the Gallery is the creation of its own art collection which has been enriching since the moment of the foundation of the Gallery. Nowadays the collection of the Gallery consists of not only modern painters, but also classic painters of Kazakh art such as I. Bondarenko, S. Romaniva, S. Sanosyan, A. Sydykhanova, T. Togusbaev, A. Shkolny. The representatives of the legendary generation of 1960’s are the rightful pride of the Gold reserve of the Gallery.

During the decade of its existence the kind tradition to organize thematic exhibitions at Christmas and on the birthday of the Gallery has emerged. The tradition of holding thematic expositions on New Year’s Eve and in the middle of February has become a specific ritual and long-awaited event for the beloved and loving audience as well as for the painters devoted to the Gallery.

Near the entrance of the Gallery there is a sculpture by Pavel Shorokhov “ The Eternal” (2013, copper), which incorporates a flying young girl bathing in the sunrays. The wonderful piece of art expresses harmony, warmth and light of creation. This composition is a present from the Arvest Art Gallery to the City of Almaty. It incorporates the energy of creation, which has invariably filled the Gallery for all the 10 years of its existence.
